The next Salah saga? Alexis Mac Allister publicly pressures Liverpool over contract

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has expressed profound disappointment after being informed the club is currently unwilling to offer him a contract extension.

Contract frustrations and summer offers

Speaking on Tuesday during a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League opening fixture against Atlético Madrid, the 2024 /25 Premier League winner revealed he had opportunities to leave Anfield during the recent transfer window.

Instead of departing, he opted to stay, hoping to secure a new deal.

"I received news that the club is not in a position to offer me a new contract which deeply saddens me because I believe everyone sees I give my best for this club every day in training and matches" Mac Allister stated.

The Argentine's public application of pressure mirrors the tactics previously employed by Mohamed Salah who heavily lobbied the Liverpool board before his eventual summer transfer to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Comparing midfield renewals

Mac Allister's frustration has been compounded by the club's recent decisions to secure the long-term futures of his midfield counterparts.

Both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch signed new agreements this year leaving the Argentine feeling overlooked despite his pivotal role in the squad.

"I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and I am very happy for them because they deserve it but at the same time I feel some sadness at not getting mine” he explained.

Despite the setback, he moved to reassure supporters regarding his commitment on the pitch:

"Of course, there is still time. I think fans shouldn't worry because I will give my best until my last day here. We will see what happens but there were options to leave this summer and I think I am at the right club now and I have the right mentality to give my all for this club"

Mac Allister must quickly put his contract disappointment aside as Liverpool prepare to face Atlético Madrid on Wednesday.

His immediate focus will be on maintaining his tactical influence in midfield under the current managerial setup. However, as the winter transfer window approaches, the club’s reluctance to offer an extension will undoubtedly alert top European sides.

If the hierarchy at Anfield does not alter its stance, the midfielder may be forced to revisit the exit options he declined this past summer.
