ESPN praised the Russian international's extraordinary penalty saving prowess, specifically highlighting his match winning performance in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against Brazilian powerhouse CR Flamengo.
Safonov produced an astonishing display during the shootout, denying four out of five spot-kicks to seal the global title for the Parisian side.
The worldwide ranking was spearheaded by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, with Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois claiming second place and Manchester City number one Gianluigi Donnarumma rounding out the top three.
A rapid ascent and nine major trophies
Safonov arrived in the French capital from FC Krasnodar in 2024 before establishing himself as PSG's undisputed first choice goalkeeper in December 2025.
Since taking over the starting role, Safonov has amassed an impressive haul of nine major honours with the club, including:
