The South Korean Football Association issued a major apology through its media platforms on Saturday in response to reports that the association allegedly provided sexual services to referees who visited the country during international matches in South Korea.

The Korean Football Association issues an apology

South Korean network JTBC reported on Thursday that, back in 2011 and 2012, the Korea Football Association (KFA) allegedly arranged such services for international referees on several occasions. These incidents reportedly took place during visits for World Cup 2014 qualifiers and matches tied to the London 2012 Olympics.

In response, the KFA issued an apology, expressing regret over the public concern generated by recent controversies stemming from parliamentary probes, an unprecedented raid, and media coverage of incidents dating back over a decade, which even longtime staff members were apparently unaware of.

According to JTBC’s report, a 2016 government audit revealed that between March 2011 and March 2012, the KFA had offered inappropriate hospitality to overseas officials on seven separate instances. This reportedly included visits to massage establishments, with bills that covered expenses linked to sexual services.
