This legend is optimistic for Benni McCarthy in Kenya
Interview
Benni McCarthy, who took charge of the Harambee Stars in March 2025, has started his journey with mixed results: a draw against Gambia (3-3) and a defeat to Gabon (2-1), the leader of the 2026 World Cup qualifying group. Despite this, the Kenya coach can count on the support of former Manchester United star Andy Cole.
Andy Cole remains optimistic about McCarthy's future at the helm of the Harambee Stars. In comments relayed by Pulse Sports, the Manchester United legend firmly believes that the South African coach has the necessary qualities to guide Kenya towards lasting success:
I think Benni will do a good job. I've known him for years. He came to England, achieved very good results as a player, and even worked as a coach at Manchester United a few seasons ago.
Andy Cole also highlights the importance of perseverance. "African football is on the rise, and young Kenyan talents must continue to work hard to make a name for themselves in Europe." Benni McCarthy, a former Blackburn Rovers striker, is thus supported by important figures in football, which bolsters the confidence around his mission in Kenya.
