Thomas Partey set for Villarreal exit

The story between Thomas Partey and Villarreal appears to be drawing to a close. According to The Athletic, the Spanish club has decided not to trigger the contract extension option included in the Ghanaian midfielder’s deal.

Having joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 after leaving Arsenal, the 33-year-old midfielder signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. After a campaign in which he made 25 La Liga appearances, starting only eight times, Partey looks unlikely to be retained. The Ghana international will therefore be free to join another club in the upcoming transfer window.

Villarreal are not planning to extend 🇬🇭 Thomas Partey’s contract when it expires later this month.

The La Liga side signed the 33-year old on a one-year deal, with an option of a further 12 months.

Right now, Thomas Partey is focused on the 2026 World Cup with the Black Stars. Ghana secured a 1-0 victory in their opening match against Panama, though the midfielder did not feature in the game. The former Atlético de Madrid player must now prepare for the next step in his career, as his future remains up in the air.
