Tolu Arokodare's spell at Wolverhampton is coming to an end. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Nigerian striker is on the verge of joining Ajax Amsterdam on a loan deal. Both clubs are finalizing the last details of the move, which will include a €22 million buy option. However, this clause will not be mandatory.

An inevitable split

Arokodare's departure follows an incident during training. The 25-year-old forward reportedly refused to leave the session despite instructions from the coaching staff, forcing the manager to halt training altogether. Since that episode, the Nigerian was no longer part of Wolverhampton's plans, making his exit unavoidable.

Again according to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax has agreed to cover the player's full salary for the duration of the loan. Having joined Wolves in September 2025 from Genk for €26 million, Arokodare made 38 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists.

Our analysis

This loan seems like the best solution for all parties involved. Wolverhampton can move on after a relationship that turned sour with their striker, while Ajax brings in a center forward eager to reignite his career. If Arokodare rediscovers his scoring touch in the Netherlands, the Amsterdam club could decide to trigger the buy option and make him a long-term part of their squad.
