Tottenham: Mohammed Kudus is back after a seven-month absence
Mohamed Kudus’s return could be a game-changer. Tottenham are having a difficult start to the season. The London club have lost their first two Premier League matches. Following a heavy defeat away at Brentford, the Spurs lost 2–0 at home to Newcastle United on Saturday.
It was against this backdrop that Mohamed Kudus made his return. Having been sidelined for seven months due to injury, the Ghana international came on as a substitute in the 68th minute against Newcastle as Tottenham were trying to get back into the game. On 29 August, he therefore played again for the first time since 4 January 2026. His return was not enough to prevent another defeat, but it gives manager Roberto De Zerbi an additional attacking option.
A key player before his injury
Before picking up his injury, Kudus was one of Tottenham’s most influential players. Having joined from West Ham United, the 26-year-old forward had played 26 consecutive matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists. His physical presence, his ability to beat his markers, carry the ball and create chances were sorely missed by Spurs. Injured on 4 January 2026, the player – who has 46 caps and 13 goals to his name – also missed the World Cup.
A boost for a revamped attacking line-up
Kudus’s return comes as Tottenham have strengthened their attack this summer. The arrivals of Savio and Omar Marmoush have added quality to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. With Kudus, Tottenham could now field a dangerous attacking trio. His ability to draw defenders and create space could give Marmoush and Savio more freedom in the final third.
