According to the BBC, press reports indicate that Mickey Van de Ven is close to signing a long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, extending his stay with the London club for an additional five years.

Back in 2023, the Dutch defender made the switch from Wolfsburg to Tottenham, putting pen to paper on a six-year deal that keeps him in North London until the summer of 2029. But according to BBC Sport, his commitment to the club hasn't always been a given. Before Roberto de Zerbi took over in March, Van de Ven had been weighing up his future, uncertain whether his long-term path still lay at Spurs.

That all changed when the Italian arrived. De Zerbi's impact went beyond just steering the club to Premier League safety—he also managed to convince Van de Ven that his place was in London. Now, the 25-year-old is ready to commit further, with talks over fresh terms already in motion.

Speaking to BBC Sport back in July, Van de Ven didn't hide his relief—or his optimism. "You can really feel that things are shifting at the club," he said. “There's a fresh energy, a new sense of direction, and that matters—especially for those of us who've been around long enough to know what it's been like.”

He didn't sugarcoat the recent past either. Last season, he admitted, was draining. “A stressful campaign, and honestly, below the standard we should be setting. To finally turn the page and start over with a clean slate—that means everything.”

Tottenham's recent history has been far from kind. Two straight 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, with survival not secured until the final whistle of the 2025–26 season. Add to that a chaotic nine-month stretch that saw three different managers take the helm, and it's easy to understand why the mood around the club had dipped.

But Van de Ven sees brighter days ahead under Roberto de Zerbi. “It's going to feel like a whole new chapter compared to last year,” he said. “The style will be different—more attacking, more entertaining. And honestly? That's exactly what we needed. Everyone's spirits had taken a hit, and this feels like the lift we've been waiting for.”
