Trabzonspor no longer want to let André Onana go
André Onana may not return to Manchester United at the end of his loan spell. Satisfied with the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s performances, Trabzonspor want to keep him permanently and could open talks as early as the winter transfer window.
Onana has convinced Trabzonspor
Arriving at Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United, André Onana quickly earned the trust of his new team. According to Fanatik, the 30-year-old goalkeeper has recorded an 81.5% save rate since the start of the season. His performances are believed to have convinced the Turkish club’s management, who now want to extend the partnership beyond the 2026-2027 season.
Trabzonspor officially announced Onana’s loan on July 3, 2026, without a transfer fee. The Turkish club thus officially confirmed that the goalkeeper still belongs to Manchester United. This situation is not new, either: Onana had already been loaned to Trabzonspor during the 2025-2026 season. The club therefore chose to renew its trust in the Cameroonian goalkeeper for this new season.
Manchester United want to sell Onana
The problem for Trabzonspor is now financial. According to Fanatik, the current loan will end at the conclusion of the season, after which Onana will return to Manchester United, where his contract will enter its final year. The English club would like to take advantage of this situation to complete a permanent sale.
A further loan extension therefore appears difficult. Trabzonspor are instead considering negotiating a direct transfer with the Red Devils, with the aim of starting talks as early as the winter transfer window. The Turkish club hopes to avoid waiting until the end of the season and try to reach an agreement with Manchester United early enough.
