Transfer: Andy Delort returns to AC Ajaccio!
After a long journey across several European and Arab clubs, including his latest stint at Mouloudia Club d’Alger, Algerian striker Andy Delort, 33, has chosen during this summer transfer window to return to the club that first put him on the map: AC Ajaccio.
Delort already wore Ajaccio’s colors from 2010 to 2013 before continuing his professional career at notable French clubs such as Montpellier, Toulouse, Nice, and Nantes.
This decision comes at a time when AC Ajaccio is facing a severe financial crisis. The club now has to compete in the lower divisions after accumulating a deficit of more than 13 million euros.
Delort explains his decision to play for Ajaccio
Speaking about his return, Delort said:
"I owe it to the club to give back what it gave me. ACA believed in me when I was young. This is where I had the chance to make my professional debut. I experienced some incredible moments with this club in Ligue 2, and also in Ligue 1 when we were promoted in 2011."
He added: "When we earned promotion for the second time in 2022, I remember asking Christophe Galtier, then Nice’s coach, to let me come to Ajaccio so I could celebrate the promotion with everyone.
He continued: The following week, I scored a hat-trick in Ligue 1! Suffice it to say, ACA holds a very special place in my heart. It’s a city and a region I’m deeply attached to."
And he concluded: "For me, ACA is much more than just a club."
