Transfer window: Bertrand Traoré still without a club with just a few hours to go before the window closes

With just a few hours to go before the summer transfer window closes, Bertrand Traoré has still not officially announced his next destination. The Burkina Faso international’s contract with Sunderland was due to expire in June 2026.

Having joined at the last minute of the transfer window in September 2025 from Ajax Amsterdam for €2.9 million, the 30-year-old striker has been hampered by injuries. He has made 12 Premier League appearances and scored one goal. Sunderland did not exercise their option to buy. The former Ajax player has not played since March 2026.

Several rumours have been circulating in recent weeks

Several clubs have been linked with Bertrand Traoré. Watford, FC Nordsjælland and Ajax Amsterdam – where he has already played on two occasions – have been mentioned. Saudi clubs have also expressed an interest. More recently, a rumour linking him with Juventus has been circulating. Some sources mention France’s Ligue 1. To date, none of these rumours has resulted in an official deal.

A situation to watch ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

With 86 caps and 21 goals, Bertrand Traoré remains a key player for Burkina Faso. The September international break will mark the start of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Étalons’ captain therefore finds himself without a club as these important fixtures approach. His future is expected to become clearer in the coming hours before the transfer window in the major European leagues closes for good.
