UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal: four goals and a dramatic twist!
Trailing with ten minutes to go, Arsenal snatched a valuable draw away to Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League.
There was no shortage of entertainment at the Allianz Arena. On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Bayern Munich and Arsenal drew 2-2 on the third matchday of the league phase of the Champions League. Ahead on the scoreboard for a long time, the Bavarians were eventually pegged back by the Gunners, who never gave up.
Eze opens the scoring, Davies gets Bayern back into the game
The London side struck first in the 25th minute. Set up by Martin Ødegaard, Eberechi Eze beat the Munich goalkeeper with his left foot to give Arsenal the lead. The goal was awarded after a video review for a possible offside.
Bayern's response was not long in coming. Ten minutes later, Harry Kane played an excellent ball in behind the defence for Alphonso Davies, who equalised with a powerful strike (35th minute). At half-time, the two teams were level after an entertaining and open first half.
Kane turns the game around for Arsenal, Rice snatches the equaliser
After the break, the match swung in favour of the Munich side. In the 61st minute, a handball by Jurriën Timber in the box earned Bayern a penalty. Harry Kane converted it to score his side's second goal and put Arsenal under pressure.
But Mikel Arteta's players found the resources to fight back. In the 82nd minute, Declan Rice unleashed a shot that beat Manuel Neuer and allowed the Gunners to snatch a share of the spoils. Arsenal therefore avoid their first European defeat of the season, while Bayern let a victory that had been within their grasp slip away.
Standings: Arsenal maintain a two-point lead over Bayern
After this match, Arsenal have seven points from three matchdays, thanks to their two opening wins and this draw. Bayern Munich now have five points, with one win and two draws. The precise positions in the overall standings remain dependent on the other results from this third matchday. In a 36-team league phase, every point could count in the fight for the top eight positions, which qualify directly for the round of 16.
Both clubs are already looking ahead: Bayern will travel to face Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday, November 3, while Arsenal will visit Slavia Prague on Wednesday, November 4. These fourth-matchday fixtures will help measure the consequences of this draw in the race for qualification.
