By eliminating Qarabag on Tuesday night, Newcastle secured their spot in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. This qualification brings the total number of English clubs advancing to the next stage to six.

The Magpies, who won 1-6 in the first leg in Azerbaijan, finished the job with a 3-2 victory at St James' Park. This win completes the lineup of six Premier League clubs heading to the round of 16.

Recall that Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester City had already booked their tickets for the round of 16 after finishing in the Top 8 during the league phase.

In the history of the competition, no country has ever managed to send so many representatives to the round of 16.

It’s worth noting that two English clubs, namely Chelsea and Newcastle, could face each other in the round of 16, depending on the draw to be held on Friday, February 27, 2026.
