UFOA A U17: Gambia dethrone Senegal and lift the trophy for the first time

It is a remarkable achievement! Gambia have knocked out the reigning two-time champions and African champions Senegal to lift their first UFOA A U17 title, qualifying them for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Wanou Gomez, the hero of the final

After a 0-0 draw in the group stage, the two teams cancelled each other out again in the final. The decision was made on penalties. The Baby Scorpions prevailed 5-3. The hero was Wanou Gomez. The Gambian goalkeeper saved a penalty in stoppage time before making another decisive save in the shootout.

Dakar left disappointed

At home, at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium, Senegal were unable to claim a third consecutive title. The Young Lions can nevertheless take consolation from their qualification, already secured, for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations 2027, alongside Gambia and Guinea.
