Uganda: player fatally assaulted in Kampala
Ugandan football is in mourning for one of its captains. David Owori, SC Villa player, has died at the age of 27 after being brutally assaulted in Kampala.
According to the latest reports from witnesses, Owori was riding a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) in the Lukuli district when he was attacked by a group of individuals. The assailants reportedly struck him violently on the head with a paving stone. Rushed to Case Clinic, the midfielder sadly did not survive his injuries.
A huge loss for SC Villa
Captain of SC Villa, the most decorated club in Uganda, David Owori was a central figure in the locker room. His death has triggered a wave of emotion across the country. Having played in Spain with Vélez CF, then in Sweden for Utsiktens BK in 2022, he returned home and established himself as one of the leaders of the Ugandan league.
SC Villa has expressed its condolences to his family and called for the full truth to be uncovered in this tragedy. David Owori's death comes less than three months after that of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, who was also killed under similar circumstances. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the attack.
