Union Saint-Gilloise: the reason for Hervé Koffi's Champions League absence revealed

After a standout season with Angers in Ligue 1, Hervé Koffi has yet to make his debut for Union Saint-Gilloise. The Burkinabè international even missed the two-legged clash against Bodø Glimt in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League.

Paperwork issues at the heart of it

According to exclusive information from Africa Top Sports, it was an administrative issue that kept him sidelined. The Stallion was still waiting for his work permit—a procedure that took longer than expected and prevented the Belgian club from registering him in time. As a result, Koffi was unable to help Union during their elimination against Bodø Glimt. The Belgian runners-up now drop into the Europa League and the keeper will not get to experience the Champions League this season.

The wait is almost over

There’s good news for Union and the Burkinabè shot-stopper. Africa Top Sports reports that the situation is finally being resolved this week. Hervé Koffi is expected to take his first minutes in an Union jersey as soon as this weekend.

Just as a reminder, Hervé Koffi signed a one-season loan deal with an option to buy from RC Lens in France.
