Diego Forlán recorded his first win as Uruguay head coach. In his second match in charge of La Celeste, the former Uruguay international led his team to a convincing 4-1 friendly victory over South Korea in Seoul.

Forlán reacts after his debut

Appointed interim head coach by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), Diego Forlán is tasked with helping to stabilise the national team while also contributing to the development of young players, following Marcelo Bielsa’s departure.

His first match, played on September 24 against Japan, ended in a 3-1 defeat. Against South Korea, the former Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid striker therefore secured his first positive result.

Darwin Núñez leads Uruguay’s attack

La Celeste scored four goals to win in Seoul. Darwin Núñez found the net twice, while Giorgian De Arrascaeta also contributed to Uruguay’s success. Min-jae Kim, meanwhile, scored an own goal. South Korea salvaged some pride through Heung-Min Son, but could not revive the contest.

Uruguay’s squad gathering will continue with one final friendly against India, scheduled for October 6 in Mumbai. The match will provide Diego Forlán with another opportunity to assess his players and continue implementing his ideas at the helm of La Celeste.
