Orlando Pirates were made to rue their missed opportunities as they settled for a frustrating one-all draw with AmaZulu FC in a Betway Premiership clash at Kings Park Stadium on Wednesday night.

The defending champions broke the deadlock seven minutes after the first whistle as goalkeeper Wilfried Kouassi parried the ball into Tshepang Moremi's path, allowing the winger to fire home.

Pirates upped the ante after scoring the go-ahead goal but failed to make use of their clear-cut scoring opportunities, a recurrent theme that visibly frustrated head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Usuthu, as a result, grew into the game which saw them earn a penalty after Mondli Mbanjwa was brought down in the box by Kamogelo Sebelebele, with Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya slotting home from the spot on the stroke of halftime.

Ouaddou' troops began the second stanza on a flat floot before energy was injected with the introductions of explosive wingers Oswin Appollis and Kabelo Kgositsile, but AmaZulu held firm for a point.

Pirates moved up to second place on the Betway Premiership standings, having accumulated four points in two games, as they beat newly promoted Milford FC in their league opener.

On the other hand, Arthur Zwane's troops are in fourth place with four points amassed, having overcome Stellenbosch FC in their first match of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Soweto giants will now shift focus to their next tie against Chippa United, interestngly at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday, while AmaZulu FC host Siwelele FC at the same venue a day before.
