Why did Lewandowski choose Chicago Fire?

Robert Lewandowski has officially joined Chicago Fire and has already taken part in his first training session with the MLS club. During his unveiling, the Polish striker explained why he chose to continue his career in the United States.

At 37, Lewandowski admitted that after his time at FC Barcelona, he couldn't see himself playing for another European club:

After deciding that my adventure at FC Barcelona was over, I didn't want to play for another European club. Leaving Europe was a difficult decision for me and my family, but after Barcelona, I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else in Europe.

The former Bayern Munich marksman also revealed that he had spoken with Thomas Müller, now at Vancouver Whitecaps, as well as Bastian Schweinsteiger, a former Chicago Fire player. According to Lewandowski, it wasn't just the financial offer that convinced him, but above all the project the American club presented.

I was impressed by how the club tried to recruit me, by the project they presented, and by the direction they want to take.

He also mentioned the facilities, the current stadium, and the upcoming new stadium as important factors in his decision. Having scored 120 goals and provided 24 assists in 193 matches with Barcelona, Lewandowski is now opening a new chapter of his career in Chicago.
