With speculation mounting over the future of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface at Werder Bremen, the club has finally addressed the rumors head-on. Boniface, on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen, has endured a challenging spell marked by inconsistent form and an unfortunate injury, casting doubt on whether his stay will last the full term.

The Bundesliga side’s managing director of professional football, Clemens Fritz, spoke candidly after Saturday’s goalless draw with Augsburg. He acknowledged the ongoing evaluation of Boniface’s situation, stating:

“Victor is currently injured, and we are in communication with the Leverkusen doctors. For now, we want to give him a bit of rest. He will take a few days off, but then we’ll have to see how things develop.”

Boniface’s struggle for form has been evident, with the striker yet to open his account for Bremen in 11 appearances across all competitions. His difficulties were compounded recently by a knee injury that ruled him out of the final two matches of 2025, cutting short his opportunities to turn his fortunes around during a key phase of the season.

As talks continue behind the scenes, both club and player face a decisive period that will determine whether this loan move can be salvaged or brought to an early conclusion.
