Women's U20 World Cup: Nigeria eliminated by Colombia

A cruel end to Nigeria's campaign. The Falconets were eliminated from the Women's U20 World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Saturday.

Dominance without reward The Nigerian players nevertheless tried everything. They created chances, applied pressure and even hit the post through Janet Akekoromowei. But the ball refused to go in.

The turning point came in the 78th minute with Kafayat Mafisere's sending-off for a red card. Reduced to ten players, the Falconets eventually cracked in added time. A goal from Valerin Loboa in the 90th+2 minute sealed the outcome of a match in which the Nigerian players had given everything.

Africa leaves the competition

Tears on the pitch at the final whistle for players who had given everything. With Nigeria's exit, no African team will reach the semi-finals following the group-stage eliminations of Ghana, Benin and Tanzania.
