World Cup 2026: Cape Verde's opponent, Saudi Arabia, unveils its squad

Saudi Arabia has officially announced its 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup. The list is already drawing attention, especially since this team will be one of Cape Verde’s group stage opponents.

An almost entirely homegrown team

Head coach Georgios Donis has opted for continuity, relying overwhelmingly on players from the Saudi domestic league. There are few major changes, signaling a clear intent for stability ahead of this major global event.

The standout name is Saud Abdulhamid. The right-back, who previously played for RC Lens and now features for AS Roma, remains the only player in the squad currently playing in Europe. In Group H, the Saudis will face heavyweight opposition: Uruguay, Spain, and Cape Verde. It's a huge challenge for a team arriving with big ambitions but still largely focused on its domestic league.
