World Cup 2026 play-offs: Good news for DR Congo

DR Congo has received some fantastic news regarding the World Cup 2026 play-offs set for March.

On Sunday, DR Congo clinched qualification after a dramatic showdown against Nigeria (1-1, 4-3 on penalties). This impressive victory changes everything for the Leopards. Thanks to their FIFA ranking, Thursday’s draw in Zurich will confirm a massive boost: DR Congo will be seeded for these play-offs.

Moreover, DR Congo will skip the semi-final round and move directly to the final in their bracket. It’s a huge advantage, especially considering that Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia, and New Caledonia will have to battle through an extra round. The Leopards will join Iraq, who are also seeded, as they await to find out their opponent for a winner-takes-all final, with nothing less than a World Cup 2026 ticket on the line.
