World Cup 2026 (Q): Cheick Condé called up to replace Sory Bangoura for Guinea

Ibrahima Sory Bangoura will ultimately not be able to join the upcoming Syli National gathering. Called up by Michel Dussuyer for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the young 21-year-old midfielder had to withdraw. To compensate for his absence, the Guinean coach has called upon Cheick Condé, who plays for Venezia in Serie A.
The Guinean Football Federation officially announced this change via a statement released on Tuesday, March 18:
"Cheick Condé (Venice FC) replaces Ibrahima Sory Bangoura (KRC Genk). The Venice player will join the Syli National squad this evening. Further examinations have been requested for Sory Bangoura, and we are awaiting the results in the coming hours," it reads. Overview:
The Syli National aims to maintain positive momentum
Condé, who was present at the last gathering in November 2024, is reunited with his teammates for these two crucial matches.
Guinea will face Somalia on March 21, followed by Uganda on March 25, as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. With this reinforcement, Michel Dussuyer hopes to maintain the positive momentum of the Syli National.
