World Cup 2026 (Q): Gabon puts pressure on Ivory Coast!
Gabon made a strong statement on Thursday in Franceville by securing a commanding victory against Seychelles (3-0) during the 5th day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This triumph allows the Panthers to temporarily take the lead in Group F, ahead of Ivory Coast.
Missing their captain and star striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who was rested and watched the match from the stands, Gabon wasted no time in setting the pace.
In the 4th minute, Jim Allevinah opened the scoring, setting the tone for the match. Denis Bouanga, in excellent form, then scored a superb brace (30th, 63rd), securing a clear victory.
Gabon takes the lead in Group F!
With this performance, the Gabonese are putting additional pressure on the Ivorian Elephants, who face Burundi on Friday. A slip-up by Ivory Coast could solidify Gabon's position at the top of the group.
Next challenge for the Panthers: a trip to Kenya on Sunday.
It is also worth noting that in the other Group F match, Kenya's Harambee Stars played out a thrilling draw against Gambia (3-3), driven by a brace from Musa Barrow. The rest of the competition promises to be exciting!
