World Cup 2026 (Q): Libya files complaint against Angola, CAF alerted
The Libyan Football Federation, through a note jointly addressed to CAF and FIFA, accuses the Angolan team of inappropriate behavior after their equalizer in the match against the Mediterranean Knights. The two teams faced off this Friday, March 21, during the 5th day of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
"The Libyan Football Federation strongly condemns the unethical behavior displayed by the Angolan players during their celebration after scoring a goal in the recent World Cup 2026 qualifying match between Libya and Angola, which ended in a 1-1 draw." the statement specifies.
"The manner in which the Angolan players celebrated their goal was not only disrespectful to Libya but also offensive to the spectators present in the stadium and the millions of people watching the match on television. This behavior constitutes a blatant violation of sportsmanship and an insult to the principles of fair play upheld by CAF and FIFA." the Libyan football governing body emphasizes. The decision from CAF on this matter is eagerly awaited.
