World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Sean Fusire explains his absence with Zimbabwe

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Sheunesu Fusire will not be joining Zimbabwe for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

Originally called up, Fusire was ultimately replaced by Tivonge Rushesha (Reading). In a statement released on Monday, the player apologized to coach Michael Nees, his teammates, and the supporters.

He clarified that there is no conflict with the federation or the country. His withdrawal is due to logistical issues: a journey of over 40 hours combined with his injury history. Fusire had requested better travel arrangements, which were not provided. Disappointed to miss out on this call-up, he nevertheless reaffirmed his commitment to Zimbabwe and his desire to play for the Warriors again in the future.
