Following Portugal’s 1‑1 draw with DR Congo in their opening match, Cristiano Ronaldo came under heavy criticism for a below‑par performance. But he responded in emphatic fashion against Uzbekistan, scoring twice in a 5‑0 victory and declaring “I’m back” directly into the television camera.

The message caught the attention of Zlatan Ibrahimović, who was in the Fox Sports studio. The former Sweden and Barcelona striker admitted he was puzzled by Ronaldo’s words.

“It was a game to score. It was a game for Portugal to score a lot of goals. And regarding his message, I thought he never left. I don't know why he says 'I'm back,'” Ibrahimović said.

Portugal now turn their attention to their next Group K fixture, where they will face Uzbekistan once more but this time in the reverse fixture, with qualification to the knockout stages on the line. Uzbekistan, who have already played Portugal in the group stage, will be looking for a better result after the heavy defeat. Meanwhile, Portugal will aim to maintain their momentum and secure top spot in the group.
