World Cup 2030: Madrid mayor confident about hosting the final

For months now, Spaniards and Moroccans have been arguing through the media over who will host the grand final of the 2030 World Cup.

The next edition of the 2030 World Cup will begin in South America before being held in Portugal, Spain and Morocco. At the moment, the Moroccan federation is pushing to host the final at its future major stadium in Casablanca. Spain, for its part, is not letting the matter go either. In recent hours, Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez Almeida has expressed great pessimism regarding the Spanish capital.

“I am not optimistic, because I believe—and it is entirely legitimate on the part of Morocco and the King of Morocco—that they want this final and, logically, I think they are acting at the political and institutional levels to achieve it. What I do not have, however, is the slightest proof or indication that the government is moving in that direction. If the final does not take place in Madrid, it will be necessary to ask whether or not the World Cup should be held. It is not for me to say, but if the final is not held in Madrid, I think there should be consequences,” he told Marca.
