10-man Mamelodi Sundowns beat Arrows to keep pace with Pirates
Mamelodi Sundowns kept the pace with log leaders Orlando Pirates after securing a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.
The defending champions opened the scoring through dynamic midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who unleashed a powerful shot after some one-touch football on the edge of the box.
Miguel Cardoso's men doubled the lead two minutes into the second half, with Iqraam Rayners netting his ninth league goal of the season.
Sundowns suffered a numerical disadvantage as in-form midfielder Jayden Adams was given his marching orders in the 52nd minute after a malicious tackle.
The visitors pulled one back from the spot in the 78th minute, thanks to the current top goal scorer Sede Dion, after Khuliso Mudau was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
Sundowns are level on 44 points with Pirates, who have a superior goal difference as the title race intensifies with 11 matches remaining for both teams.
