Malawi arrives without pressure. In their very first appearance at the Women's AFCON finals, the team topped Group C. They claimed a 3-2 win over Nigeria and a 3-1 victory against Egypt, before falling 1-2 to Zambia. Six points and first place—finishing ahead of the Super Falcons.

Ghana, for their part, finished second in Group D with four points. They opened with a 2-0 win over Cape Verde, then lost 0-1 to Cameroon and drew 1-1 with Mali. The Black Queens are hungry for a return to the semi-finals.
