Both a playmaker and a scorer against Egypt (3-2) in this 2026 World Cup Round of 16, Lionel Messi admitted he feared he had cost his team qualification.

The Argentine forward explained his tears at the final whistle of this last-16 showdown.

"I cried because I felt I had let my teammates down with the penalty I missed... and the way I took it. But fortunately, once again, God had something special in store for me at the end. I’m very happy," confessed the Albiceleste captain.
