Egypt lagging behind as the fifth-highest ranked team in Africa holding 1,562.37 points. On the eve of their titanic Round of 16 clash, the massive competitive gulf between Egypt and world number one Argentina.

The live standing surge

While FIFA's official ladder won't formally update until 20 July, live calculation models have already mapped out Egypt's dramatic rise.

The Pharaohs have provisionally vaulted five places to 24th in the world. This surge brings their total to approximately 1,597 points netting a substantial 34.68 point increase.

More importantly for continental bragging rights, this leap places Egypt third in Africa, leapfrogging heavyweights like Nigeria, Algeria and Ivory Coast leaving them behind only Morocco and Senegal.

How the points were won

This ranking explosion is a direct reward for a fearless tournament display. Egypt secured its first ever World Cup victory by defeating New Zealand 3-1 before drawing with Iran to escape the group.

The real points jackpot came in the Round of 32. Egypt's dramatic penalty shootout victory over Australia added a whopping 12.34 points alone. Even the heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Argentina couldn't halt the momentum as the weighted scoring system protects teams who perform admirably against top-tier opposition in major knockout fixtures.

A perfect historical parallel is Senegal's trajectory after the 2018 World Cup. Despite a painful group stage exit on fair play points, the Lions of Teranga climbed steadily into the global top 20.
