One thing's for sure: UEFA is pulling out all the stops to bring down Gianni Infantino. However, the FIFA president can rely on the backing of CAF president Patrice Motsepe.

For several days now, Gianni Infantino has fallen out of favor with UEFA. The European governing body is now more determined than ever to oust him from his role as FIFA president. According to L'Equipe, UEFA is preparing a motion of no confidence in the coming months should he refuse to step down.

The idea would be to give more power to the clubs, who are currently mere "observers" within FIFA. While Infantino faces unprecedented criticism from his former employer, he can still count on the support of CAF and its president, Patrice Motsepe.

Speaking to Sky News, Motsepe was direct. "If anyone has an issue with anyone, be it Gianni or anyone else, follow the procedure, follow FIFA’s procedure, it’s as simple as that," he stated firmly. In his view, everything will be decided in the next elections, scheduled for March 2027.

"If you want to remove him, do it through the elections. Let the 211 FIFA member associations decide," he concluded. As a reminder, alongside CAF, Infantino also enjoys the backing of CONMEBOL.
