FIFA rules out a likely resignation of Gianni Infantino

Despite mounting criticism and a call for his resignation issued Friday by Norwegian Football Federation president Lise Klaveness, Gianni Infantino has no intention of leaving his post as FIFA president.

In fact, in an official statement released Saturday, the world football governing body strongly backed its leader. Gianni Infantino, already weakened by the collapse of his project to open the World Cup capital to private investors, now faces serious allegations of favoritism dating back to his tenure at UEFA.

"There is a concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine FIFA and its president. Recently published information contained unsubstantiated claims and blatantly false allegations regarding FIFA and its president. Speculation and insinuation must not be presented as facts, and repeating an allegation does not make it true. The president of FIFA was democratically elected by the member associations and continues to serve under the mandate they have entrusted to him.", FIFA stated.
