UEFA officials push for investigation into Gianni Infantino

Under intense scrutiny at the helm of FIFA in recent days, Gianni Infantino could soon see his past at UEFA put under the microscope.

According to information from the Telegraph this Sunday, several senior figures within the European governing body are pushing for an investigation into the entirety of Gianni Infantino’s 16-year tenure at UEFA, spanning from 2000 to 2016.

The push for an inquiry is tied to reports of an alleged affair with a former employee. She was reportedly promoted during this period, before leaving UEFA with a six-figure severance package and funding for an MBA. UEFA now wants to determine the exact circumstances surrounding these payments and whether the alleged relationship influenced any staffing decisions.

It’s worth noting that, at the time, Michel Platini reportedly even asked Infantino to choose between his position and the employee in question. For his part, the FIFA president categorically denies all accusations, while the world football body denounces what it calls a "concerted and ongoing effort" to undermine him.
