On Saturday, Yan Diomandé made his official debut for Real Madrid, taking the field at the RCDE Stadium (1-2).

The Ivorian international came on in the 64th minute. His performance received generally lukewarm reviews from the Madrid press following the hard-fought win over Espanyol (1-2). Marca gave Yan Diomandé a 6 out of 10 rating.

The winger was criticized for his tendency to go for one-on-ones every time, but without managing to make a real impact, often ignoring runs in behind. The result: the play slowed down, there was a lack of verticality, and little threat down the right flank.

Meanwhile, As described the former RB Leipzig man's performance as "timid". "He can offer much more," the outlet assessed, though they did point out his role in the build-up to the second Real Madrid goal, scored by Carlos Espi (90th minute). Espi, meanwhile, grabbed the headlines in Marca and stole the spotlight from Yan Diomandé.

The Abidjan native will be keen to bounce back next Wednesday at home, when Los Blancos play their first match of the season at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid will host Real Sociedad on matchday two.
