With just days to go before the 2026 World Cup final, FIFA has reportedly narrowed its shortlist to two referees for the tournament's ultimate showdown.

The identity of the referee for the 2026 World Cup final remains unknown, but two names have emerged as clear frontrunners. According to information from Mundo Deportivo, Poland’s Szymon Marciniak and Brazil’s Wilton Sampaio are the top favorites to take charge of the most anticipated match of the tournament.

In fact, FIFA’s choice will largely depend on the final’s match-up. Marciniak is considered the ideal candidate if there’s an all-European clash between Spain and England, while Sampaio would have the edge should Argentina face La Roja.

Both men boast impressive credentials. Marciniak, who already officiated the 2022 World Cup final between France and Argentina, brings immense experience to the table, as does Sampaio, who has also refereed several times in this edition. FIFA is expected to make its decision by Thursday or Friday.
