England's 2026 World Cup campaign kicks off with a heavy blow. The Newcastle right-back will not be able to take part in the competition, bringing his World Cup dream to an abrupt end.

According to several English media outlets, the defender is dealing with a calf injury that will require several weeks of recovery. Keeping him in the squad was therefore no longer an option. This situation also reignites questions over his initial selection, with some observers suggesting there were already doubts about his fitness before the tournament began.

To compensate for his absence, the England manager has decided to call up Trevoh Chalobah. The Chelsea defender, who was not included in the final squad list, was enjoying his vacation in the United States when he received the call from the coaching staff. He immediately cut his trip short to join up with the team's base camp.

This replacement was made possible by FIFA regulations, which allow for changes in the event of serious injury up to 24 hours before the first match. England has thus avoided starting the tournament with a depleted squad and will now be able to count on Chalobah to strengthen their defensive line.
