2027 AFCON qualifiers: Djú and Mama Baldé duo leads Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau have won their first two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Franculino Djú and Mama Baldé have scored in each of these matches, with the pair accounting for four of the Djurtus' five goals.

Guinea-Bissau first overcame Tanzania (2-0) on 25 September in Dar es Salaam. Franculino Djú opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, assisted by Beto, before Mama Baldé doubled the lead in the 58th minute from a pass by Dalcio. Guinea-Bissau then held on to its advantage until the final whistle.

Djú and Baldé strike again against Nigeria

Four days later, the two forwards found the net again, this time against Nigeria. In Bissau, Djú put the Djurtus ahead in the 15th minute before Mama Baldé made it 2-0 in the 66th. Álvaro Djaló added a third goal in stoppage time to seal a 3-0 victory.

After two matchdays, Djú and Mama Baldé have therefore scored two goals each. They have found the net in both of Guinea-Bissau's matches, leaving the team with six points from six and unbeaten in Group L.

Guinea-Bissau take control of Group L

This start puts the Djurtus at the top of a group in which Tanzania have already qualified for the 2027 AFCON as co-hosts. Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and Madagascar are therefore competing for the remaining qualifying spot.

After two matchdays, Guinea-Bissau have six points, while Nigeria remain on three after their opening win over Madagascar and heavy defeat in Bissau. With four goals, Djú and Mama Baldé have been directly responsible for four of their team's five goals since the start of the campaign.

For Guinea-Bissau, the next challenge will now be to confirm this strong start when the qualifiers resume.
