Niger got off to a winning start. At the Accra Sports Stadium, the Mena beat Lesotho 2-1 in their opening Group A match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sosah and Sako get the Mena off to a flying start

Nabil Neghiz's men made the difference in the first half. Daniel Sosah opened the scoring in the 38th minute from an Ousseni Badamassi pass, before Oumar Sako doubled the lead just before halftime, set up by Amadou Wonkoye.

Lesotho wake up too late

For their part, Sera Motebang pulled one back from the penalty spot. The goal came in the 85th minute. The Crocodiles were unable to equalise.

Neghiz sets the tone

In Group A, Morocco host Gabon at 19:00 GMT in the other fixture. Having taken charge of the Mena on September 11, Algerian Nabil Neghiz has made a perfect start to his tenure and set the tone from the outset in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
