Nigerien football wants to open a new chapter. Under the leadership of president Issaka Adamou, the arrival of Nabil Neghiz at the helm of the MENA and the appointment of Sid Ali Foughali as technical adviser in charge of strategic development reflect the Niger Football Federation’s (FENIFOOT) desire to strengthen its project around the national team.

The MENA at the heart of a new ambition

The main challenge for the Niger Football Federation remains the progress of the Mena. The Nigerien national team has players competing abroad, as well as talents from the domestic league. The objective now is to make better use of this potential and build a team capable of moving up a level on the African stage. With Nabil Neghiz, FENIFOOT intends to establish a stronger collective identity and bring greater consistency to the sporting project.

In this new dynamic, Niger will begin the AFCON 2027 qualifiers on 25 September, with a match against Lesotho in Accra. Four days later, on 29 September, the MENA will travel to face Gabon in Franceville. Two important fixtures for a national team looking to begin this new phase on a positive note.

But beyond these two matches, the ambition is to build for the long term. Niger wants to make better use of its talents, strengthen the environment around its national team and establish momentum capable of helping it regularly return to the major African competitions. The task is significant, but the clear determination shown by FENIFOOT, led by Issaka Adamou, is to breathe new life into Nigerien football and enable the MENA to move up a level.
