Portugal: all of Cristiano Ronaldo's incredible records with the national team

On Thursday, Cristiano Ronaldo officially brought the curtain down on his international career with Portugal. His retirement from international football comes after 23 years representing his country. It has been an exceptional journey, marked by major titles and an impressive collection of records.

Incredible statistics

With 234 caps and 146 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo holds both world records in men's football. Since scoring his first goal in 2004, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has found the net in 23 consecutive years, through 2026. He is also the first player to score ten hat-tricks for his national team and remains the leading scorer in the history of World Cup qualifying, with 41 goals.

The former Real Madrid player featured at six World Cups between 2006 and 2026. Ronaldo became the first player in history to score at six different editions. He has 11 goals in 27 appearances, making him Portugal's all-time leading scorer in the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes history at the Euros

Cristiano Ronaldo's record at the Euros is just as impressive. He has featured in six final tournaments, playing 30 matches and scoring 14 goals, a record. CR7 has also scored at five different editions and remains the only player to have scored at least three goals at three separate Euros (2012, 2016 and 2020). He is currently the competition's all-time leading scorer as well as its leading assist provider, with 8 assists, a record he shares with Karel Poborsky.

Three titles with Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo also led his country to three major titles: Euro 2016, followed by the Nations League in 2019 and 2025. In the latter competition, he made history once again by becoming the oldest player to score in a final tournament, at 40 years and 123 days old. He also became the oldest player to win a Nations League final. One final testament, if one were needed, to his ability to defy time.
