The Confederation of African Football has appointed Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan to officiate the match between Burkina Faso and Benin. The Group F encounter will be played on September 25, 2026, at the 4 August Stadium in Ouagadougou, as part of the first round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Artan will be assisted by his compatriots Hamza Haji Abdi and Ali Mahmoud Mahdi, while Abdul Fattah Said Said Miri will serve as the fourth official. Algerian Jamil Ould Ammar has also been appointed match commissioner, with Nigerien Atama Ibrahim Bourima serving as referee assessor.

A prominent figure in continental refereeing

Omar Artan was named Africa’s best referee in 2025 and recently officiated the 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa. He is 34 years old and has gained considerable popularity after being barred from entering the United States to officiate matches at the 2026 World Cup. This appointment brings further attention to Ouagadougou and the eagerly awaited Group F clash in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
