AC Milan: Luka Modric explains his period of reflection before extension
Even at 40, still performing at a high level, midfielder Luka Modric has signed an extension with AC Milan.
The former Real Madrid star was initially out of contract with the Italian club as of last June. Luka Modric waited until after the 2026 World Cup to commit his future to the Rossoneri. The Croatian detailed his thought process in an interview with the Lombardy club's media outlet.

"I never thought that would be my last match with Milan. Deep down, I knew I wanted to continue, but at the same time, I needed to check other factors that would allow me to do so. (...) During the season, I could have signed an extension, even in December, but first I wanted to listen to my body and see if I still had the same desire and passion for football. When Milan showed me just how much they valued me and my place in their new project, that was exactly what I needed to hear. I talked it over with my family and decided to stay," said the former Madridista.
