Adebayor reveals how he convinced Marvin Senaya to choose Ghana over Togo

Former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor says he played a role in Marvin Senaya’s decision to represent Ghana rather than Togo. According to the former Togo international, he advised the young player to seize the opportunity to take part in the World Cup with the Black Stars.

Adebayor says he directly encouraged Senaya to choose Ghana, which has already qualified for the next World Cup.

“I told him it was the only chance he had. Ghana had already qualified for the World Cup, so I told him he had to go because it could be the major tournament of his life,” he said.

For the former striker, the prospect of playing in a World Cup influenced his discussions with the young defender. Ghana already has its ticket to the competition, unlike Togo, which was a decisive factor in the advice given by Adebayor.

A close relationship

The former captain of the Sparrowhawks does not present his intervention as that of a mere adviser. He describes a particularly close relationship with Senaya and believes that the player attaches real importance to his recommendations.

“I am like his godfather. He always listens to my advice, takes it seriously, and I am very happy for him,” Adebayor explained.

Senaya’s choice is therefore also the culmination of personal discussions with the former Togo international. By opting for Ghana, the player is now part of the Black Stars’ project, with the prospect of taking part in the World Cup among the major milestones of his career.
