AFCON 2027: Patrice Motsepe takes stock of preparations in Tanzania

Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe was in Tanzania on Thursday to discuss preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations with the country's authorities. The competition, dubbed AFCON PAMOJA 2027, will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

CAF monitors progress on AFCON 2027

In Dar es Salaam, Patrice Motsepe met Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to take stock of the progress made in preparing for the competition. The head of state reaffirmed her government's commitment to ensuring the success of AFCON 2027. The meeting comes as CAF continues its discussions with the three host countries to monitor the organisation of the event.

The CAF president was accompanied in particular by his vice-presidents Kurt Okraku and Faizel Sidat, acting secretary general Samson Adamu, as well as Tanzanian Football Federation president Wallace Karia and the chairman of the Local Organising Committee in Tanzania, Leodgar Tenga.

A three-country organisation takes shape

AFCON 2027 will be a special edition, as it will be hosted for the first time by three East African countries: Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. CAF has already held several working meetings with the authorities and football officials of the three nations.

A PAMOJA Supervisory Committee has notably been established to coordinate preparations for the competition. Patrice Motsepe's visit to Tanzania is therefore part of this monitoring process ahead of the tournament's kick-off.
