The second matchday of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers is over. Find all the results, scorers and updated standings from the 12 groups.

The second matchday of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers officially ended on Tuesday, October 6, with Angola’s victory over Malawi (3-1). Several favourites confirmed their strong starts, including Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, DR Congo, Rwanda, Mali and Guinea-Bissau, all of whom have six points after two matches.

Other major nations have already dropped points. Egypt, Senegal and Algeria remain unbeaten on four points, while Nigeria and especially Ghana endured a much more difficult second matchday. Most of the matches on this second matchday were played on September 29, before the final fixtures scheduled through October 6.

As a reminder, the 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four. The top two qualify for the final tournament, except in Groups D, H and L: as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have already qualified as host nations, only one additional spot is available in each of these three groups.

Groups A to D: Morocco and South Africa maintain perfect records

Group A

  • Lesotho 0-2 Morocco - Scorers: Brahim Diaz, Azzedine Ounahi.
  • Gabon 2-0 Niger - Scorers: Rody Junior Effaghe, Denis Bouanga.

Group B

  • South Sudan 0-5 Egypt - Scorers: Mostafa Zico, Omar Marmoush (2), Ibrahim Adel, Hamza Abdelkarim.
  • Angola 3-1 Malawi - Scorers: Milson, Mabululu, Miro / Kialonda Gaspar (own goal).

Group C

Groups E to H: DR Congo perfect, Tunisia still without a win

Group E

Group F

When will the next international break take place?

The qualifiers will resume during the next FIFA international window, officially scheduled for November 9 to 17, 2026. The African teams will then play matchdays 3 and 4, with two additional matches in the space of a few days.

Among the fixtures to watch, Algeria will face Togo twice, while Mali and Rwanda will meet in a direct top-of-the-table clash in Group K. Morocco will also take on Niger. After the November window, the final two matchdays of the qualifiers are scheduled to take place between March 22 and 30, 2027.
