A nightmare evening at the Accra Sports Stadium. Gambia beat Ghana 4-2 after trailing 2-0, completing a remarkable comeback on matchday two of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

From 0-2 to 4-2: Gambia’s smash-and-grab victory

Ghana had made the perfect start. Ernest Nuamah opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 27th minute before Felix Afena-Gyan doubled the lead in the 33rd. The Black Stars appeared to be in control, but Gambia equalised before half-time through Mohamed Badamosi from the penalty spot in the 37th minute and Omar Colley in the 42nd.

After the break, the Scorpions took control. Ebrima Colley scored twice, in the 68th minute and in stoppage time in the 90th+1 minute, to seal a stunning 4-2 victory.

Gambia top, Ghana bottom

After their 2-1 victory over Somalia on the opening matchday, the Scorpions are clear leaders of Group C. For Ghana, it is a disaster. Following the 0-2 defeat by Ivory Coast, the Black Stars have slipped further and now sit bottom of the group.
