It's official! The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will not be expanding from 24 to 28 teams.

According to information from The Guardian, the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected president Patrice Motsepe's proposal. Motsepe had aimed to implement this reform starting from the 2028 edition.

"We held a vote and the proposal was overwhelmingly rejected. It was a very bad idea. There was absolutely no reason to do it," said a CAF executive committee member, speaking on condition of anonymity.
